The Spy Who Came in from the Cold was selected to one of the All-Time 100 Novels by the Time magazine. The title of the book immediately informs the reader about the theme of the book. It is a British spy novel that takes place during the Cold War. The book provides entertainment for even those who are not in favour of spy novels. I personally had the idea that a book written in such a genre would be boring. However, it turned out to be an interesting book to my surprise. This book provides a new perspective of the Cold War and places it into different context than school lessons. The book does not lack perfectly detailed character and landscape descriptions besides the events taking place in it. The story follows the main character who is a spy during the Cold War. The reader can understand his hardships and struggles and his reserved and introvert nature. His characteristic features are not surprising considering the situation he is in. His character development is interesting besides the spy story. The book does not lack love in the storyline. The reader is also presented a picture about the Cold War itself. John Le Carrés book is an interesting spy novel that is worth to read.
