This comprehensive book covers all parts of fluid mechanics needed to design petroleum engineering application. It provided a balanced treatment of the fundamental aspects of fluid flow. At the beginning basic concepts and definitions are presented. After a chapter of elementary kinematics, the balance equations of mass, momentum, angular momentum, energy and entropy follow as governing relationships which must also obey. Perfect fluid is discussed primarily in the aspect of gasdynamics. Shock waves are introduced on the basis of discontinuous balance equations. Actual fluids are treated both in laminar and turbulent motion Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid flows through pipes an annuli are solved by applying different techniques. Knowledge of multiphase flow in pipes is essential to understand the performance of flowing hydrocarbon and geothermal wells and gathering pipe systems.
