A lovely tale of photography

The book is based on the delusions of a female photographer suffering from an unidentified illness; her dreams, and her distorted perception of reality blend together in a way that was at first difficult for me to follow. Gradually though, as the characters appeared and reappeard, a sort of harmony emerged, and in the flights of the heroine's fantasies my mind became unleashed with hers and I felt as though I was walking side by side through her madness. It circles delicately around the issues of time and memory as she struggles with her new found freedom from these "constraints", and with an ebb and flow of reality which is difficult for her to pin down without the help of her camera. It is beautiful and haunting, set in a landscape of daytime heat and the silver of the moon at night. It is strange and surreal, with the cast of characters occasionally breaking into other languages, and the vagaries of the other inmates. It is erotic, as she is sunk in a twilight world where conventions lose their meaning.
